Bob Ferrieri Passes Away

34th Street Partnership's original Chief of Sanitation will be missed.

The staff at 34th Street Partnership was saddened to learn that Bob Ferrieri, our original Chief of Sanitation, passed away in East Brunswick, NJ on January 1, 2017. Mr. Ferrieri came to the fledgling Partnership in 1991, and quickly established one of the largest and best privately managed sanitation teams in the city. For 24 years, he maintained uncompromising performance standards which, combined with his excellent assessment of talent and clear understanding of budgets, allowed our team to keep the District’s sidewalks and corners free of trash, snow, and ice every day, no matter the season.

Mr. Ferrieri joined the Partnership after 22 years of outstanding work with the NYC Department of Sanitation where, as borough superintendent, he directed countless snow removal projects and managed the cleanup after seven ticker-tape parades. His tenure at NYC DOS proved invaluable to our company, as Mr. Ferrieri brought hard-won expertise as well as a legacy of goodwill that helped to establish our excellent relationship with the agency.

A great storyteller, he was well-liked by the staff, members of which uniformly found him a pleasure to work with. His discerning eye was valuable in many instances outside of his portfolio, as is evidenced by the taller high-top chairs that enliven Heiskell Plaza at Bryant Park, which were his solution to a long-standing problem. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer and his perfectly grooved swing was the envy of many a weekend duffer who played with him.

“Bob Ferrieri was an outstanding manager and person, and we were fortunate to have him onboard early on,” says President Dan Biederman. “He created the 34th Street Sanitation team from scratch and never stopped improving it. He was a man with many skills, who did not accept poor performance and watched every penny spent on his department. We’ll miss him, and we offer our condolences to his family.”
