Poem in Your Pocket Day Set for April 27

Celebrate the beginning of the Reading Room season with the annual celebration of poetry.

Angelito Jusay

The city’s biggest outdoor literary series kicks off this Thursday as the Reading Room hosts Poem in Your Pocket Day for the 15th consecutive year. Poetry lovers are invited to come to this celebration of verse, which has become one of the park’s signature events and is free and open to everyone.

Our old friend Daniel Kitrosser will host the program, which includes an appearance by NYC Youth Poet Laureate Sharon Lin, and an Open Mic, when students from NYC's elementary, intermediate, and high schools take to the podium to read their own work. DJ Flip Bundlez will be spinning tunes throughout the event.

Poem in Your Pocket Day runs from 10:30am–1:30pm on Thursday, April 27. This event is produced in cooperation with the New York Department of Cultural Affairs, the Department of Education, NYC Votes, UrbanWordNYC, and the Office of the Mayor, to all of whom we offer thanks and appreciation. We also thank HSBC, which is sponsoring the Reading Room for the 15th straight year.
