E-commerce giant chooses 34th street for a brick-and-mortar store.
The sign in the window at 7 West 34th Street, a building owned by Vornado Realty Trust, says it all: “Amazon Books Coming Soon.” The Seattle-based e-commerce giant has embarked on an initiative to create a chain of brick-and-mortar bookstores a try, and the store in our district will be the company’s second location in New York City, and 11th overall.
This is great news for book lovers. Bookstores are becoming rare in the Big Apple, and this one promises to be a beauty. Amazon’s business plan calls for the store to sell bestsellers and books that have garnered customer ratings of “four stars” or better, as well as high-profile products such as the Amazon Echo.
The store is slated to open this summer, according to Time Out New York, and we at 34th Street Partnership are excited by this news. The decision by Amazon to open here attests to the excellent business climate on 34th Street.
