Iconic British boot-maker opens flagship store in Herald Square area.
Last month, the British footwear brand Dr. Martens opened a store at 1333 Broadway, just a block north of 34th Street. The 1,200-square foot flagship store is the company’s third in NYC, and the location is a perfect fit, according to Melissa Delrossi, Operations Manager for the brand. “The store speaks to our urban customer. With the foot traffic in Herald Square, we knew it would be the perfect location to open a store” she told Barbara Schneider-Levy of Footwear News.
The store’s interior reflects the brand’s utilitarian point of view, with displays made of wood and metal, with exposed brick and concrete as part of the design. The full range of Dr. Martens products is available, including adult, children’s, and utility styles and, of course, the iconic 1460 8-eyelet boot that remains a bestseller. The owners expect the store to do a strong tourist business in addition to local shoppers.
The move by Dr. Martens also continues a trend of tugging 34th Street just a bit northward. Two years ago, Urban Outfitters opened a flagship store at the same address, and was joined last year by Danny Meyer’s Shake Shack.
