Time is running out to apply to our annual Painter in Residence program.
The deadline for applying to Bryant Park’s Painter in Residence program is approaching fast, but you still have time. Now in its sixth year, Painter in Residence commissions accomplished artists to create visual representations of the parks’ landscape and iconic features. If you are interested, you have until May 31 to apply.
Those chosen will be commissioned to work in the park daily for a two-week period, with a weekly stipend and a one-time supplemental fund for materials. Four artists will be chosen, with Program 1 commencing on July 10. Subsequent programs begin on July 24, August 7, and August 21.
The competition is open to all U.S. artists 18 years of age or older. Any artwork submitted for consideration must have been completed in the last two years. Though representational styles will be given preference, innovative and experimental approaches are welcome. Likewise, art using either traditional or alternative media will be accepted. For complete information on the program, including application instructions, click here.
All paintings are commissioned by Bryant Park Corporation and become the company's sole property. Currently, the work of one of our previous Painters in Residence hangs in the Bryant Park restroom. Check it out the next time you visit. The application deadline is May 31, 2017 and winners will be announced on June 15.
The 25th season of this series features films set in New York, with some fan favorites from years past making an encore.
