BookClub Features Classics and Graphics

Discuss great books at the city's busiest outdoor Reading Room.

Angelito Jusay

BookClub at Bryant Park Reading Room took on a new format for the 2017 season, alternating between sessions devoted to literary classics and those focusing on the best in graphic novels. The combination has proven popular, with big crowds attending events on both genres.

There are plenty of sessions remaining. Here’s the schedule for Classics BookClub, produced in partnership with Oxford University Press:

  • July 25: The Book of Margery Kempe by Margery Kempe. Hosted by Johanna Luthman, Love, Madness, and ScandalThe Life of Frances Coke Villiers, Viscountess Purbeck.

  • August 8: Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell. Hosted by Radha Vatsal, Murder Between The Linesâ.

  • August 22: The Awakening by Kate Chopin. Hosted by Meg Lemke, Mutha Magazine.

Get Graphic BookClub, produced in partnership with Penguin Random House, has two remaining dates:

  • August 1: Mycroft Holmes and the Apocalypse Handbook. Hosted by Kelly Coyle-Crivelli, Penguin Random House.

  • August 15: The Fifth Beatle: The Brian Epstein Story. With Vivek J. Tiwary, Bestselling author and Tony Award-winning producer, in conversation with David Steinberger, comiXology co-founder and CEO.

BookClub meets at the Reading Room on Tuesdays, 12:30pm, through August 22. Attendees can pick up a free book to be discussed, while supplies last.
