The parks at Herald and Greeley Squares in the heart of the 34th Street District provide much-needed oases for shoppers and office workers. You’ll find chairs and tables, horticulture, varied programming, free restrooms, and each park is also equipped with an outstanding permanent food kiosk.
At Greeley Square Park, Nuchas offers the freshest empanadas in town. There’s something for everyone at this one-time Vendy Awards Rookie of the Year, with hearty fillings including short rib, Argentine beef, chipotle chicken, and Italian sausage, portobello mushroom and spicy cheese, shiitake curry and seitan al pastor. If you have a sweet tooth, try the apple, cranberry, and Nutella empanada. There’s also full coffee service by La Colombe Coffee Roasters, and gourmet icy treats from Kelvin Natural Slush Co.
Over at Herald Square Park, Wafels & Dinges serves up the city’s most famous traditional Liège waffles, with a wide selection of “Dinges,” scrumptious toppings including Belgian chocolate fudge, dulce de leche, maple syrup, Nutella, and the famous Spekuloos spread. There’s also a full line of coffee drinks featuring coffee made specially for Wafels & Dinges by Brooklyn Roasting Company.
