Don't miss this NYC holiday staple on Thursday, November 16.
New York City’s holiday season gets jump-started next week as Macy’s Herald Square, the World’s Largest Store, unveils its holiday window display to the public. Macy’s inaugurated this grand tradition back in the 1870’s and ever since, the unveiling of its holiday-themed windows has been one of the most anticipated events of the year.
The main focus is on the six large windows lining Broadway, and the theme this year is “The Perfect Gift Brings People Together.” The displays center on the joy of sharing holiday season festivities with those we love. While each window depicts a different slice of life in the city during the Yuletide season, they are all brought together by the appearance of the big man himself, Santa Claus, in every one of them.
On 34th Street, the windows feature key scenes from the emerging holiday classic, “Yes, Virginia…”, and on Seventh Avenue, the windows are filled with playful, interactive toy scenes from FAO Schwarz.
The official unveiling is at 5:30pm on Thursday, November 16 with a ceremony that includes music, fun, and elves. The windows will put you in the holiday spirit, but be ready to share that spirit, as during peak times, more than 10,000 people file by to check out the windows.
