In 2013, we saw more national and international retailers flock to 34th Street, and local NYC icons underwent lavish renovations. Bryant Park received its own bright retail news as well.

34th Street

  • Macy’s Herald Square, in the midst of a $400 million renovation, opened Stella 34, a chic bar-restaurant with unparalleled views of Herald Square.
  • Madison Square Garden completed a billion-dollar renovation that transformed the world’s most famous arena. 
  • The legendary Sam Ash Music moved from multiple stores on 48th Street into a consolidated store at 333 W. 34th Street.
  • Hour Passion opened its first North American store at 112 W. 34th Street, bringing multiple Swatch brands and high-level service together under one roof.
  • Urban Outfitters announced plans to open a store at 1333 Broadway, expanding the success of the district one block north.
  • Victoria’s Secret took on an additional 60,000 sq. ft. of space at its location at the corner of 34th and Sixth Avenue. 
  • Thanks to a mini-boom in construction, the number of hotel rooms expanded dramatically in the district; the New Yorker Hotel announced plans to double its size. 
  • A Kids Footlocker opened at 142 W. 34th Street, bringing Foot Locker’s total number of stores on 34th Street to three.
  • Herald Center announced plans for a major beautification project, and scored H&M as a major anchor tenant. The retailer plans to open a “mega-store” at the location in 2014.  

Bryant Park

  • Upscale gym Equinox signed a lease at the new glass retail box at 125 W. 41st Street. 
  • Whole Foods announced plans to open a store at 1095 Avenue of the Americas.
  • Blink Fitness and Organic Avenue signed leases, and will soon open outlets at 5 Bryant Park (aka 1065 Avenue of the Americas).

BRYANT PARK / 34TH STREET

It was another productive, event-filled, and prosperous year for Bryant Park Corporation, 34th Street Partnership, and Chelsea Improvement Company.
