Cheer on your favorite football squad with other enthusiastic fans.
The World Cup, currently taking place in Brazil, is the world’s greatest sporting event. There’s nothing like being at a stadium for a World Cup game, but if you can’t make it to Rio this year, don’t worry. Southwest Porch at Bryant Park has installed a 55” TV and is showing most of the games live. This is the best way possible to enjoy the game: outdoors, sitting in comfortable furniture, while enjoying quality sips ‘n snacks prepared by ’wichcraft.
The games have been exciting, and the crowds at the Porch have really enjoyed them. New York City has citizens and visitors from every country on Earth, so every game has intense partisans hanging on every move. And when the American team plays, the atmosphere is fantastic. Last week, when John Brooks headed in the game-winner for the U.S. on Sunday evening, the crowd went wild!
We’re going to show most of the games, as long as they don’t conflict with events scheduled in or adjacent to the Porch. Most of the time, the mute button is on so that the park is as normal as possible. Remember, even though ’wichcraft offers great food and drink, no purchase is necessary to enjoy the Porch. For young soccer fans, Bryant Park Games hosts a 2014 FIFA Panini Sticker Swap each Sunday throughout the World Cup. This is a great chance to fill those holes in your Panini album, and meet other passionate fans of the Beautiful Game. Come to the Games area at 40th Street Plaza from 3:00 - 4:00pm each Sunday through July 13.
