World Cup at Southwest Porch a Smash Hit

Games beamed from Brazil drew in an impressive number of fans and media outlets.

Wow. When we decided to show live World Cup games on the 55” screen at Southwest Porch in Bryant Park, we expected some people to get excited, but even we were surprised at the turnout.

Attendance at The Porch was excellent throughout the tournament, but really soared when the U.S. played. On July 1, when the American team took on Belgium, an estimated 800 fans gathered at the Porch to cheer on the squad. Alas, a U.S. victory wasn’t in the stars, but what a show of support for our guys!

Media outlets took note of the proceedings. A partial list of outlets running articles about World Cup viewing at The Porch includes The Wall Street Journal, the Daily News, El Diario, the NY Post, Epoch Times, FOX5/New York, WCBS-TV, PIX11 News, WJNU-TV (Telemundo), NBC News, WINS Radio, WCBS Radio, CNBC, Inside Edition, Voice of America, BBC, Reuters, Yahoo Eurosport, the Daily Mail, TV Asahi American (Japan),  Al Jazeera,  Globo TV (Brazil),  Record TV (Brazil),  Sino Vision (China) and Anadolu (Turkish news agency).
