34th Street Partnership works with Vornado to bring programming to the west end of the district. Origami, juggling, yoga, meditation, and more recently launched.
One Penn Plaza, located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues and 33rd and 34th Streets, is the largest office building in the Penn Station area and includes three outdoor public plazas. This summer, its owner Vornado Realty Trust has teamed with 34th Street Partnership to enliven the plazas with amenities and programming. We’ve brought something to each of the public spaces (Park West, Park East, and North Terrace), making it easy for area office workers to get some fresh air and participate in interesting activities.
Fans of the Broadway French Market will welcome the news that Park East hosts the Penn Plaza French Market each Wednesday, 11:30am-5:00pm, through October. Operated by Bensidoun USA, this is a great stop for local produce, organic goods, fresh-cut flowers, crafts, and more. Come by to choose fresh ingredients for cooking at home, or to grab ready-made treats for lunch.
Juggling is a great activity to let off steam and get your mind off of work, and Afternoon Juggle at Park East lets you do just that. Our juggle professionals teach this enjoyable past-time to anyone who wants to learn, for no cost, from 2:00-4:00pm every weekday through September. (Note: Afternoon Juggle moves to Park West on Wednesdays.)
If yoga is your thing, you can focus on alignment, awareness, and breathing at vinyasa-style classes presented by Studio Anya. Yoga with Studio Anya welcomes participants of all skill levels for free classes each Tuesday and Thursday, 7:30-8:30am, at Park East through October 16. Some mats are provided, but please bring your own if you can. Also at Park East, learn the ancient Japanese art of paper folding at Origami Lessons. The sessions are hosted on Tuesdays, 3:00-4:00pm, through October 14. This program is conducted by Origami Studio NYC.
34th Street Partnership Visitor Services has moved one of its award-winning information carts to Park East. Stocked with brochures, the carts are staffed by friendly guides who are there to help everyone, New Yorkers and out-of-towners alike, find their way around the neighborhood and city.
For music lovers, Park West comes alive with live performances by talented brass bands on selected weeknights through the summer and fall. From swingin’ jazz to brass-inspired hip-hop, these concerts are timed perfectly for office workers looking to unwind after a long day.
And over at the North Terrace, learn how to find your bliss as Ziva Meditation conducts free meditation lessons 3:00-3:30pm on Thursdays through September 25.
We’re just getting started at One Penn Plaza, so visit the 34th Street Events Calendar frequently to see what’s happening.
